Beautiful. :) I love the idea of Starsky keeping a score of how much luck they've got stored up. And calling it magic -- that just makes it all the sweeter. Especially with those last two lines as well:

"Hutch gave a snort of mock exasperation. "Starsk. You know there's no such thing as magic."

But his eyes said the opposite."
